Dae-Lee, the event’s organizer, said the battle is meant to “bring diverse circles together in the center of Charlotte.”

Diversity is something Dae-Lee has been working hard to champion and promote around the city, working with others to foster equity and inclusion in the Charlotte music scene. He has collaborated with Charlotte Center City Partners and Music Everywhere CLT, among other organizations which support musical initiatives in the city.

Dae-Lee pitched the CLT DJ Battle idea to Charlotte Center City Partners with the goal of “showcasing the level of talent in the Charlotte DJ Scene.” They agreed to back it and the inaugural event was born.

He says he hopes that through the battle “the community experiences the beauty in difference, and the need for more spaces like the CLT DJ Battle that intentionally brings diversity together.”

The CLT DJ Battle takes place at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at Convergence Plaza, on the corner of Trade and Tryon Street.
